Buy with Your Heart and Head Martha Webb, author of the bestseller Finding a Home, says that the most important tip she can give a buyer is to "Buy with your heart and your head." Webb says: "When you buy a home, you look for more than just the right number of bedrooms. It's about nurturing and roots."

Webb insists that heart and mind must work together if you want to find the right home for you and your family. And you'll need to go about it as methodically and as creatively as you did when you went to school to learn something. Most of all, Webb says, "You must do your homework."

Beyond that, you must know what makes you comfortable, and what makes you uncomfortable. Get your feet solid on the ground.
